Like in the case of many other gadgets being released these days, finding a great laptop is always an activity that requires lots of patience, time, personal needs, money and so on, depending on the consumer. Some will disappoint you, some will make you want to buy them all. Today we are going to talk about Asus’ $1,299 Zenbook UX32VD. It has a high price, but you will find, if you read our analysis, that this device sure merits your money. Let’s see why below.
Out of all the laptop Asus has helped create so far, the Zenbook UX32VD does not share the same beauty as its predecessors. But all in all, we liked its looks.
Here are the specs this device uses: Windows 7 Home Premium operating system (a 64-bit version this time around), a 1.7GHz Core i7-3517U processor, 13.3″ for the screen, an Intel HM77 chipset, a 500GB 5,400rpm 24GB SSD hard drive, an Nvidia GeForce GT 620M / Intel HD4000 graphics unit and 4GB, 1,333MHz DDR3 of memory. The ultrabook has the following dimensions: 12.8″ x 8.8″ x 0.2 – 0.7″.
The internal storage is limited to 500GB if you choose the 24 GB SSD version, or up to 256GB if you choose the 256GB SSD option. The battery is a 48 Whrs polymer one. The connectivity options includes: 3 HDMI ports, one SD card reader, one mini VGA connector and 3 USB 3.0 ports. This laptop weighs 3.3 pounds. Kind of on the heavy side this device. However, still not as heavy as many of its counterparts sold nowadays, which are many.
Throughout our benchmarks, the latest Zenbook laptop was easy to hold with two hands and move from our room to the kitchen.
The keyboard provides the user with backlight. Thanks to that, we could type this review into the wee hours of the morning with the light turned off. The buttons had a good feedback and feel to them. And the space between each of them is definitely more generous than before. The clickpad is, on this model, the most notable con. Because multitouch gestures simply weren’t that effective in tests. Also, the touchpad was very easy to use and the feedback we got from it was good.
Full HD display
The display on the Zenbook UX32VD is not a strength for Asus. Its 1,920 x 1,080 pixels of resolution and the fact that this is a screen with a full high definition option does not change the fact that quality is not a pro. We were witnesses to the display showing signs of light bleeding, for instance. The way that text also looks is not that great. It should have been very easy to make out letters, but it wasn’t the case here. And not to mention that, if you are an avid gamer, you would want a better display. The GPU is also not up to task to allow for heavy gaming. But you can play a lot of less demanding games without fearing that the graphics unit will blow into a million pieces.
Connectivity is as follows: 3 USB 3.0 jacks and dual video outputs. It would have been better to see more variety, though. The processor is ready to deliver a good performance whatever task you submit to the Zenbook UX32VD. We threw all sorts of activities on this CPU and it showed that it could do them really well. Which is almost all that matters in a laptop these days.
The warranty you get for this product is 1 year. And if there are problems at any point while using the laptop, you can use the company’s phone support that is available every day at any hour.
The Asus Zenbook UX32VD has a price that will bring some of you to tears. But as a whole, this laptop will get you through a lot of activities and maintain a good face.
