Casio Exilim EX-ZR200

A point and shoot new camera

Cameras haven’t yet had their last word and the Exilim EX-ZR200 produced by Casio is making that clear by making sure that consumers keep faith in the existence of such devices. This point-and-shoot compact camera was first presented to the eager faces of people who participated in the CES that ended some weeks ago in Las Vegas. The product will be waiting its first buyers this April and it will cost $379.99. But there’s still time till then and, since we don’t want our readers to die from curiosity, we put together this review based on some testing from our part.

3 inch display

Casio wanted the Exilim EX-ZR200 to be a camera that could successfully replace the EX-ZR100, and they did a good job with it. The company maintained the same design as on the previous model, which had a body that was both infused with modern elements, style and a smooth finish and was also a far cry from cameras that could break easily. When we held the device briefly, we were thankful for its light weight that had a lot to do with us feeling the best sense of comfort. To grip the Exilim EX-ZR200 one only needs to use the product’s rubberized section that’s situated directly on the front. The rear is a clean portion with controls that are easy to press and well-spaced. Other things of interest on the back: a 3″ LCD screen, a 4-way control pad, a button dedicated to video recording, keys for shooting/playback and a button for the menu. On the top of the device sit the rest of functions, buttons and the like.Casio-Exilim-EX-ZR200

High speed shooting modes

We didn’t have to deal with major issues when using the Exilim EX-ZR200 in our tests. The menu was where our frustrations were born, because it had a lot of long lists with various options and some of the latter were hilariously left off the display when we looked at it. Using the product with only one of our hands was pleasant, as the product remained steady. Shooting modes for high speed use were not different from what the EX-ZR100 featured: VGA video at 120 frames per second, awesome high speed video recording up to 1000 fps and image bursts up to 30 fps. All these options make photos look good. The Auto mode made pictures appear excellent whatever the shooting conditions they were snapped in were. If you’re interested in taking macro shots, this camera courtesy of Casio can go as close as 1cm to your subject of choice.

Up to ISO 3200

ISO range is between 80 and 3200 and the photos taken look good up until the latter value, when they tend to become hard to decipher. Image stabilization is a feature that is a great tool in the war against pesky blurs.

The lens and the sensor of the Exilim EX-ZR200 are perfect additions and the screen on the back is clear and bright, albeit prone to reflections and impossible to view when the light outside is too bright for its powers.

Since batteries are always essential to all the gadgets ever manufactured, the one that offers vitality to this camera is capable of 480 shots per charge.

Review conclusion

And with this we have reached the end of today’s review. The Casio Exilim EX-ZR200 is a way better version than the EX-ZR100 it lends the design, control layout, menu and burst shooting functionality from. We found it was loads easy to use, comfortable and capable of performing really well.
