Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30
A new generation of cameras
The Camera & Photo Imaging Show in Japan ended barely two weeks ago. Many of the big names in the camera industry came, saw, conquered and left with their new additions. Panasonic was also invited to take part in the event. And it brought with it a hybrid cam, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30. The US knows it as Lumix DMC-ZS20. Whatever its name is, we are convinced that it is the company’s most versatile camera until now. The features and the readiness with which it served us in tests were amazing. These all made us conclude that the device was very worthy of our time and of succeeding Panasonic’s previous zoom compact cameras. But let us tell you more about it in this review.
20x optical zoom
The Panasonic DMC-TZ30 is a genuinely compact camera. 104.9mm x 58.9mm x 28.2mm of pure and unaltered compactness. Your hands and pockets will be grateful when they hold the device. With the impressive zoom range we’d have expected a very heavy cam. But it turned out to be light instead. Also, don’t get fooled by the compact frame: the camera holds many and varied specs without the least of effort. Such as a 3″ LCD touchscreen with 460k dots of total resolution. We played around with the display and it responded to each and every one of our touches quickly.
The cam’s features make using it an experience spiced up with a lot if fun. The controls with their effects are also responsible for many pics which you’ll remember for a lifetime. The panorama mode was our favorite; to obtain it we swiveled the TZ30. That was all, no complicated preparations beforehand.
The lens on this product is 20x zoom Leica DC. The range it has starts from 24mm and advances till 480mm. The digital zoom is 40x. The photos we snapped were, of course, a little less good-looking because of that. The MOS sensor doesn’t have the same muscles as a regular SLRs.
Very good focus speed
The camera impressed us by how quickly it wished to focus on something or someone. It got excited very fast even when we didn’t stand in places with good light for this review. Focus speed was up to the sky; so very good. The Lumix DMC-TZ30 manufactured by Panasonic has a Light Speed Auto Focus that needs 0.1 seconds to snap a pic. That’s seriously something to brag about to friends. And nag them about getting their very own camera. Like all cams made last year, this device delivers 10fps once the consumer turns the continuous shooting mode on.
The footage we recorded had a res of 1,920 x 1,080. Quality was full high definition AVCHD. We actually also recorded shots in very slow motion. The stereo mic used by the TZ30 made sure no noise was captured. We got everything recorded with a GPS geotagging feature. It included the name of our country, the city we were in and the place. Testing the product in conditions with bad light yielded the same great photos and video content.
Panasonic booked the Lumix DMC-TZ30 to be released next month. The UK will be the first to see this cam on its shore. Compact cameras have yet to see such a good example on how one of their kind must look and perform. And so it seems like the Japanese minds are at it again!
