Samsung Focus 2

A phone powered by Windows 7 OS

Ever since it partnered with AT&T, Samsung has had a fun ride. Their relationship is such, that many devices with Windows Phone have been released. If you did not get to test the ones released before, you can do that with the latest gadget, the Focus 2 smartphone. As with the other models, this one proves itself very worthy. We put it through its paces and this review will tell what it is capable of. Read it to find out.

4 inch display

The Samsung Focus 2 is $50 if the buyer signs a 2-year service agreement with AT&T. If we’ve seen a smartphone, we’ve seen them all. And we refer to the color used with so much zest. But this device is not taking the same path. Because its color is white and there is a silvery trim that accentuates its good looks. It is not a blindingly beautiful phone, but it does ooze classiness thanks to its smooth finish.

For the outer body, Samsung chose plastic. It did not strike us as a weak device, quite the contrary. But the coating is really too glossy. We had moments, during testing, when the phone dropped from our grasp. Dimensions are fairly good: 4.7″ x 2.5″ x 0.5″. The body weighs 4.3 ounces. You will be able to pocket it and it will not hand like a brick in your pockets or bag.Samsung-Focus-2

The touchscreen is 4″. The resolution of it all is 800 x 480 pixels. Considering the size, this is a good amount of pixels. It was enough to deliver good sharpness to text, good colors (albeit some cases where we saw oversaturation) and good levels of black. We did not get struck by any con to mention in our review.

2.5MP camera

The Focus 2 has the Windows Phone operating system. This is synonym for a lot of features. Some of them in the following list: text and multimedia messaging, hotspot support, Wi-Fi, Xbox Live and so on. Apart from those, consumers will also get some novel additions. Such as Music ID, auto-fix editing features in the camera app, bar code scanning and many more.

On the back, this smartphone has, besides the usual stuff, 2.5MP digital cam. The quality of the pics and clips it takes and shoots respectively depends. Sharpness is not amazing. Still, pics will look pretty good. But not so much that you will be blown away. If you want that, you should choose a different smartphone with a much better camera. Videos looked way more reliable.

1.4GHz processor

The processor is a 1.4GHz one. The device was never slow. But some of the apps took a bit longer to load than the other ones we tested.

The performance of the Focus 2 when it came to call quality was decent. At first we noticed that it was kinda soft. When we turned the volume up, we were hit by an overall fuzziness that would not go away no matter what we did. Words uttered by a friend in the mouth piece sounded garbled. But even if that was so, we still could understand what he was telling us. On the other end of the line, though, our friend said we sounded really good, albeit a tad muffled. The speakerphone was also decent.

4G speeds were so and so. They ranged from 2Mbps and 5Mbps down and 1Mbps upload. Battery offers 6 hours of talk time and 6.5 days over 4G LTE.

Review conclusion

The Samsung Focus 2 is, per total, a smartphone with a good performance. With the exception of that offered by the camera and the battery.
