Toshiba Satellite P755D-S5172

A 15.6 inch new laptop

Competition has always made everybody strive to be better. And so it’s also made manufacturers of various gadgets want ot build the next best model. When it comes to the processors used by these products, they’re made by Intel in their majority. But there is another CPU manufacturer which produces very good processors, too. Its name is AMD. The laptop to use a CPU coming from the latter is Toshiba’s Satellite P755D-S5172. We received a copy and immediately started testing it. The conclusions of that are in this review.

Glossy design

The design of the Toshiba Satellite P755D-S5172 is made of some elements that will be easy to like. Its body is from plastic and painted in a combo of silver and black. Not the kind that gives off a cheap vibe, though. But it is glossy. Textured horizontal lines run across its surface. These same lines aren’t there only for decoration. They actually resist fingerprints with much success. The laptop is pretty heavy. It certainly didn’t feel very comfortable to move from there to there. But we managed in the end. Because the device’s keyboard is placed on the interior in a recessed section, this will affect the wrist rest. In a good way. Because the wrist rest is, as a consequence, higher than the actual keyboard. The buttons we pressed when writing reviews felt very pleasant. But when you look and use each button on its own, you’ll see that it somewhat wiggles. Also, the spacebar is undersized. The number pad that can be seen on the right has page-up and page-down buttons which come in very handy at every step of the way. The keyboard has, above it, touch-sensitive buttons for media control. An issue that many Toshiba laptops have wasn’t removed from this laptop, either. The con we’re talking about is the sound made by volume control keys. Every single time we pressed them, they beeped really loudly.Toshiba-Satellite-P755D-S5172

1,366 x 768 pixels resolution

Speaking of sounds, the speakers that offers the possibility to listen to whatever you want don’t offer an unforgettable experience. But at least they offered clear sounds with good brightness now and then. Below the touchpad were placed mouse buttons for left and right. Even though they didn’t take long to deliver feedback, the keys still had a con: they made sounds and were loose. Two-finger scrolling refused to work in our test; only two-finger zoom and pinch functioned well.

The Satellite P755D-S5172 has, on its front, a display measuring 15.6″. The 1,366 x 768 pixels of res sound good. And they indeed not only sound good, but also provide the display with great brightness. And with beautiful colors. Until, that is, you look at the screen from off-axis angles. That’s a shame. An even bigger shame: an 1080p Blu-ray drive will never be able to deliver full resolution if it encounters such a display.

AMD Quad-Core A8-3520M processor

Connectivity is one of the laptop’s pros. The device has 4 USB ports. One of them is version 3.0, the others are older. A novelty we enjoyed: the USB 3.0 sports the possibility to charge and power iPhones and iPods when the laptop sleeps. Or when it’s turned off.

AMD Quad-Core A8-3520M, 6GB of RAM and 640GB 5,400rpm hard drive are on the list of specs to check out. Even though the processor is not undefeated in its performance. But at least you won’t get slowdowns.

Battery is almost 3 hours. Which frankly is not enough.

Review conclusion

The Toshiba Satellite P755D-S5172 does not have what it is required of it to shine. It’s just an OK system.
